Two ways to be on a volcano before dawn, and they are not the same morning.
Mount Batur is an active volcano in the Kintamani highlands, and its rim faces east over Lake Batur towards Mount Agung. That view at first light is why people set an alarm for one in the morning.
We run it two ways. One walks up. One drives across the lava field. Both get you there before the sun; what differs is effort, price and where exactly you stand.

Pickup starts at 01:15 and you walk up in the dark with a guide, reaching the summit in time for sunrise and breakfast at the top. The entrance ticket and the guide are included.
It is a real climb on loose volcanic ground, not a stroll. Take it if you want the summit and you are comfortable walking uphill for a couple of hours before dawn.
The jeep
Pickup starts at 01:30 and an open jeep takes you across the black lava field to a viewpoint for the sunrise. No climb.
It costs less than the trek and asks nothing of your legs. Take it if you are travelling with children or older parents, if you would rather not hike in the dark, or if you simply want the view without the effort.
What to expect either way
It is cold at that altitude before sunrise, considerably colder than the beach you left. Bring something warm — a fleece or a jacket — and expect the temperature to swing once the sun is up.
Both options are around seven hours door to door, which means you are back in time to sleep for most of the morning. Plan a quiet afternoon.
